Getting Started as a Member

When your organization adds you to MentorNeko, you will receive an invitation email. From there, the path to your first match takes just a few minutes. This guide walks you through each step so you know exactly what to expect.

Step 1: Accept Your Invitation Email

Check your inbox for an email from your organization's program administrator. It will contain a magic link, a secure one-time link that logs you in without a password.

Click the link in the email, then click the button on the verification page to confirm. You will be taken directly into the platform. No account creation, no password to remember.

If you do not see the email, check your spam or junk folder. If your link has expired (they are valid for 15 minutes for fresh login requests, or longer for emails sent by the system), click it anyway. If your email address is included in the link, a fresh one will be sent to you automatically.

Step 2: Complete the Onboarding Wizard

After your first login you will be guided through a short onboarding wizard. Your progress saves automatically after each step, so you can pause and come back if needed.

Step 0: Your Intent

Choose what you are here for. You can select one or more of the following:

  • Mentor -- you want to share your experience and guide others
  • Mentee -- you want to learn and grow with the help of a mentor
  • Networking -- you want to connect with peers around shared interests
  • Exploring -- you are not sure yet and want to look around first

You can be a mentor and mentee at the same time, even in separate programs. If you choose Exploring, it is mutually exclusive with the others, but you can always update your profile later.

Step 1: Profile Dimensions

This step is the foundation of your AI match. You will answer questions about your background, skills, experience level, goals, and what you are looking for. The more you fill in, the better your matches will be.

Step 2: Your Bio

Write a short bio introducing yourself. A few sentences about your background, what you are working on, and what you hope to get from the community. Your bio needs to be at least 30 words to unlock program enrollment.

Step 3: Program Discovery

Browse the programs available in your organization and join the ones that fit your goals. Some programs may require admin approval before your enrollment is confirmed.

Step 3: Complete Your Profile for Better Matches

Before you can enroll in a program, your profile needs to meet a readiness threshold:

  • Profile photo: Upload a clear photo of yourself.
  • Bio: At least 30 words.
  • Required dimensions: Any profile fields your organization has marked as required.

If something is missing, you will see a checklist on your profile page telling you exactly what to complete.

Step 4: Join a Program

Once your profile is ready, head to the Programs section and enroll in a program that matches your intent. You can join as a mentor, a mentee, or both, depending on what the program supports.

What Happens Next

After you enroll, the program administrator runs AI-powered matching. You will receive an email when a match has been proposed and approved. From there, you and your match will be introduced and gain access to your shared Match Hub, where your mentorship journey begins.

Matching is not instant. Timing depends on when your admin runs matching, which may be on a set schedule or after enrollment periods close. You will get an email as soon as a match is confirmed.
