Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a mobile app?

Not at this time. MentorNeko is a web-based platform that is fully responsive, meaning it works well on phones and tablets through your mobile browser. You do not need to download anything. Simply open your organization's MentorNeko URL in your preferred browser.

Can I be both a mentor and a mentee?

Yes. You can hold both roles, even simultaneously and across different programs. For example, you might be a mentee in a leadership development cohort while mentoring someone more junior in a separate program. Your intent preferences on your profile tell the system what you are looking for, and you can enroll in programs in whichever role fits.

Can I change my role after joining a program?

In most cases, yes. However, if you have an active or pending match in a given role, that role cannot be dropped until the match concludes. This protects your match partner from being left without a counterpart mid-program. If you need to make a change and have an active match, contact your program administrator.

What if I do not like my match?

Start by having an honest conversation with your program administrator. Matches can be terminated, but termination requires a stated reason so the admin can understand what went wrong and improve future pairings. Your feedback helps the program get better over time.

If the match simply is not working and both parties agree, your admin can end it cleanly and, if appropriate, re-run matching to find you a better fit.

How does the AI matching actually work?

When you fill out your profile, you provide information across several dimensions: skills, goals, experience level, areas of interest, and more. The AI analyzes those inputs and computes compatibility scores between potential mentors and mentees in the same program.

The AI does not make the final decision. Your program administrator reviews all recommendations and approves each match individually. You will only hear about a match after a human has signed off on it.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Each organization on MentorNeko is fully isolated from every other organization. Members of one organization cannot see any data from another. The platform is built with tenant isolation at the database level, not just at the application layer.

MentorNeko is also GDPR-compliant. If you request account deletion, your personal information (name, email, bio, profile dimensions) is permanently scrubbed. Match history is retained anonymously for program analytics, but it cannot be traced back to you. See the Deleting Your Account article for details.

Can I pause my match?

Yes. If life gets busy or you need a temporary break, you can request a pause on your active match. During a pause, session reminders and nudge emails stop. Pauses have a set end date and your match resumes automatically when the pause period ends, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Contact your program administrator to initiate a pause. They can set the duration and handle both sides of the notification.

Why did I not receive a match right away?

Matching is not instant. Timing depends on your specific program:

  • In always-on programs, admins run matching periodically on their own schedule.
  • In fixed cohort programs, matching typically runs after an enrollment period closes.

Your profile also needs to be complete before you are eligible. Make sure you have a profile photo, a bio of at least 30 words, and any required fields filled in. Incomplete profiles are not included in matching runs.

Can I see other members in my organization?

Yes, if your organization has the Community Directory enabled and you have opted into visibility. You can browse other opted-in members, filter by dimensions like skills and goals, and send messages through an integrated relay. Your contact information is never shared directly.

What happens when my program ends?

When a fixed cohort program ends, your match moves into a concluding state. You will receive an exit survey to share feedback on your experience. After the survey window closes, the match is marked as completed and becomes read-only. Your history, goals, and notes are preserved for your reference.

For always-on programs, matches conclude on a rolling basis when both parties complete their agreed sessions or when one party requests to conclude.
